Performing Christian music is tricky sometimes. Well intentioned compliments turn into major ego boosters! I have to remind myself that I am nothing without God. All of my gifts flow from Him. And then another, and another… That’s how it is when we sin. We commit one “little” sin, then our sins get more frequent and worse and harder to turn away from. We get stuck and discouraged and feel there’s no way out…… we get so stuck in our own sin that we can’t see God reaching out to us to pull us out - no questions asked.

I wrote this song right after I was hit by a semi-truck on the interstate. The car was totaled, but we were all okay. All of the people in the car were members of the praise and worship band I founded called “Savio” after St. Dominic Savio. Savio’s motto was, “I am incapable of doing big things, but I will do everything, even the smallest things for the greater glory of God.”” I felt the profound reality that my life is temporary, and I must live by that motto. I fall… a lot… but I think God counts the times we get up more than the times we fall.

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * I’m not giving you guys the words to this song, because to read it is not to experience this dialogue between Jesus and you, and Mary and Jesus. I tried to capture the agony, but the hope of the Crucifixion from Jesus and Mary’s points of view. Sometimes we forget Mary in the Crucifixion. She was quiet, but present throughout. Remember…she sacrificed her only Son. How hard it must have been for her to trust in God in the midst of her pain in seeing Him suffer!
* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * I admit it. I’m a control freak. Maybe because I’m the oldest in my family. It applies to my spiritual life too. I hate not knowing what God’s plans are for me! It drives me nuts!! This song is more about my inability sometimes to forgive myself for things that I’ve done. A priest once told me that if I refused to forgive myself and let go, I was refusing God’s mercy. He said that I was essentially saying, “No God, my sins are too great to be forgiven… they’re greater than Your sacrifice on the cross.” And then I felt really bad!! I hope that this song can be your prayer… just let go.

He is the Bread of Life… whoever eats of His flesh and drinks of His blood will have the light of life. Do this in memory of Him. God can create mountains and seas, change water into wine, and He is present in you and me… why do people think it impossible for Him to make Himself fully present and fully in communion with us through the bread and wine? That seems small potatoes to creating the universe!!
